I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are

thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well (Psalm 139:14).

Have you struggled with your looks and appearance in some way at sometime? Do you have physical marks or blemishes or traits and tendencies that you feel are not as pretty as other persons?  It could be that your mental capacity or acumen is not as high as people with whom you school, work or live with in the same neighbourhood, or attend church together with.  Truth is that no matter your looks and appearances, God still made you in a unique and special way and for that reason you should always remember to be full of gratitude, awe and respect towards God for the body and mind He has given you.  Please, note that you are not expected to read the above assertion to mean that you should not try to improve yourself mentally and physically in ways that will glorify God and be beneficial to you and others.  Let’s be honest, God did not make any one to be lazy and dirty.  God has made most of us women with a body and mind that has the capacity of working hard and well so that we can fulfill His purposes for our creation.  Hence, we cannot blame God if we don’t want to study, grow, develop and try to do better and bigger things with the abilities He has given us.

Like many other women, I too struggle with many negative habits, traits and tendencies.  However, God has shown me from His word, by His spirit and from nature that He did not create me with those negative things.  He created every woman with a beautiful body and a sound mind.  We are rather the ones who often mistreat, misuse and abuse our bodies and mind and cause it to be incapable of serving God’s purposes to the fullest capacity.  I am stating all this to mean that as a woman, you should be thankful for the body and mind God has given you and work to keep it in good working shape and condition so that you can serve your God, your family, church, community, nations and generations in the ways and roles He wants for you.  You cannot fulfill God’s purposes for your life if you continue to mistreat, misuse and abuse the fearfully and wonderfully designed body and mind God has given you with negative things such as gluttony, drunkenness, drug addictions, pornography, prostitution, immorality of every kind, fears, worries, doubts and many other like things.

Many women are often limited in functioning in their various God ordained roles and responsibilities at home, church, workplace and the community because they have created situations for themselves that God never intended.  When all woman begins to understand and appreciate the beauty and greatness of how God has made us, we will be liberated from so many negative things that keep us from realizing our worth and usefulness to God and humanity.

The word ‘fearfully’ literarily rendered means to have regard, respect and reverence for God for who He has made you to be.  God knows your every need and situation; He knows the number of the hair on your head and really cares about your wellbeing.

The word ‘wonderfully’ means to be specially, distinct or unique.  This implies that God has made you special and God has a special purpose and plan for you.  He has created you as His own master piece to fulfill His purposes.  It means there are things that God has designed you to do in life.  God has created you in such a way that you have certain passions and desires that are unique to you alone. .  When you discover these passions and desires, develop yourself along those lines and then deploy them to serve God and other. It will surely bring you liberation from every negative thought pattern that makes you compare yourself with others and compete unhealthily.

Self hate, rejection and inability to accept yourself as special and unique are attitudes that will prevent you from becoming all that God has destined you for in life.  When you look at the mirror, don’t feel like a failure any more, don’t be too hard on yourself, none of us women are perfect, we all need God’s grace in one area or the other.  The next time those negative thoughts arise in your mind ‘that you are good for nothing ’, ‘that you are a failure’, ‘that no one loves you’ – all the lies from Satan and the pit-of-hell – my sister just shout aloud and say, ‘I am fearfully and wonderfully made!’

Prayer Focus:            Dear Lord, I banish every negative thought from my life and I receive grace to stop maltreating and abusing my mind and body in Jesus Name.

Quotes:                       No matter what shape or size you are, you should feel confident in your own skin.
