TEXT: Thou will show me the path of life: In they presence is fullness of joy; at the right hand there are pleasures for evermore.(Psalms 16: 11)
In recent times I have seen many people panic and fret over the security situation in our country. Much as I don’t think that our government has faired well enough in providing adequate security measures to curb the so many security breaches all around us; i am of the opinion however that at best the government can only make concerted effort but not actually be able to win in the battle to secure lives and properties of it’s citizen. This position of mine should not make any one view me as a pessimist who do not have confidence in government spirited efforts. Rather my position is premised on the truth of the word of God that say “Safety is of the Lord” and “Vain is the help that comes from man”.
True security of our people, places, cities, communities and homes cannot be achieved through any governmental or non governmental efforts. It can only be achieved as people learn to dwell in the Presence of the Lord or as people learn to make their surroundings the habitation of the Almighty. God’s presence is our absolute place of safety, security and strength any day and any time.
Whilst God did not promised us that we will have a crisis/conflict free world, he however promised us that we can always be of good cheers because He has overcome the world for us and that by his power we too can overcome every situations that confronts us.
The power to overcome the world however does not just fall on people like ripe cherries. We can only contact that power as we learn to dwell in His presence.
Scared to their teeth because of the security situation of their day following the death and resurrection of the Lord, the disciples had all gone into hiding being considered as “wanted persons” by the Roman government of their day. They soon realised that no matter how they hid themselves, they would always be found and equally mal handled just like the Lord. To prevail in such given circumstances, they quickly had to hid the instruction of the Lord to “Tarry in the city of Jerusalem”. It was at the upper room in Jerusalem that as they “continued with one accord in prayer and supplication” they wielded the power to overcome their world and every thing(s) that constituted a threat to them and the advancement of the kingdom of God.
Today instead of us to learn to do the same like the disciples did, many people including church folks are rather living theirs lives in default mode, blaming the government, terrorist, hoodlums and miscreants of our society, rather than stay in His presence to wield the power needed to dethrone, distabilise and destroy all opposing forces of darkness.
The church is the light of the world and the salt of the earth. We are the ones saddled with the responsibility of bringing the peace that our world desperately needs by shinning our light. May the Lord find us faithful in this solemn assignment individually and corporately in Jesus name.
