TEXT: But Daniel purposed in his heart that he will not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat….(Daniel 1: 8)
Decision making is regarded as the cognitive process resulting in the selection of a belief or a course of action among several alternative possibilities.
Decision Making is a key skill for personal and professional Development and it is particularly important if you want to be an effective leader. Whether you are deciding what course to study, where to live, where to worship, who to marry; the ability to make a good decision with available information is vital and a critical factor for all round success.
Daniel and many other young Hebrew boys who were captured by king Nebuchadnezzar found themselves in captivity in Babylon, a foreign land with different language, religion and culture; and they were required to abandon their own belief and values to embrace that of their captors but Daniel purposed or decided to hold on to the goodly heritage he received from his forebears. Even though that decision of his meant initially that he was going to fall out of favour with his benefactors, yet Daniel realised that his overall success basically depended on his ability to make important decisions even when faced with temporary challenges and thus stood his ground. In retrospect, we see that his decision ultimately made him emerge an impactful leader not just of his time but for our contemporary time. It is my prayer for you too that you will learn the skill of Decision Making to emerge a change agent in world.
